NESMO (Northeast Social Media Officers) was founded in early April of 2013 by a group of police officers and social media trainers who were interested in more effectively using social media to connect with the public.
The first group meeting was at the Burlington Massachusetts Police Department on April 23rd of 2013. The group went through several possible names and came up with Northeast Social Media Officers as it best reflected the group membership. NESMO was an easy to remember acronym that would help the group spread the word about the work we do to promote best practices in the use of social media for law enforcement.
NESMO exists to help law enforcement agencies in Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire develop best practices in using social media to connect with their respective communities. The group has an informal structure and there are no membership fees. Services provided include a website, e-mail discussion list and free attendance at group meetings.
We encourage group members to share their ideas and experiences and learn from each others successes and mistakes.
